Newbie Quickstart Guide

Welcome to Starmourn! It's time to craft your legacy in the stars.

The Starmourn Quick Start Guide aims to help you out by giving you beginner-level advice, explanations, commands, and everything the intrepid adventurer needs to face destiny head on!

In Starmourn, you're part of a vibrant, living sci-fi galaxy. Who you become and what legacy you forge are entirely up to you! Will you be a titan of industry, a war-torn pirate, an interstellar pop star, an Ishvana sycophant, a storied scientist, or something entirely new?

The stars are in reach, and your dreams are the only limit. Let's get started.

The Concept: What is Starmourn?

THE GAME

You take on the role of a spacer, a generic professional name for all space-bound adventurers. This is the most basic component of your character and seeds the rest of your choices in the Starmourn sector.

You are further identified by other choices: gender, race, faction and class to name a few. Your choices only have the weight that you give them, nothing more, and most choices can be easily changed at will.

To act in Starmourn, you’ll manipulate your character through walking, talking, fighting, exploring, examining your surroundings, interacting with objects and acting generally as a living being would, though through text.

ROLEPLAYING

In Starmourn, you're playing the role of your character, not necessarily yourself.

You live in the Starmourn galaxy, and know nothing of the fate of Achaea’s Earth, or its history, which was lost over a thousand years ago. The scope of your roleplay is entirely up to you - does your character have a life story within the world that fuels their actions and dreams, or are you simply acting in the moment?

Staying "in character" (IC) is pretty straightforward. Whenever possible, use in-world language instead of game language:

  • MIL (Mindsim Integration Level) instead of “Level”
  • Hunting instead of “Bashing” or “Grinding”
  • Heading to Cryo instead of “Logging Off”
  • In-game historical events vs Real life history / current events

A couple more notes - Being a science fiction game, certain technologies from our time exist in a significantly advanced form - some, like nanotech, bordering on magic. Any Earth related knowledge is limited entirely to the Earth Media list. For more information, read HELP ROLEPLAYING and HELP EARTH MEDIA in game.

When in doubt, ask! You can use OOC <STATEMENT> to make an out-of-character comment to those in your room, or OOCTELL <MESSAGE> to speak OOC to another player directly. Some clans are also OOC by default, such as the CESSPOOL clan which is open for anyone to join (and is also a great way to reach admin!).

Getting Connected to Starmourn.

To play Starmourn, you need to pick a client to use. The easiest choice is our official client, called Nexus, which will work in any modern browser except Internet Explorer on Windows, Mac, Linux, or tablets. Or, just click on 'Play Now' at the top of this page.

Nexus is the easiest way to play, but not the only one. If connecting through MUDLET, MUSHCLIENT, or another similar offering, use starmourn.com with port 3000.

Introductory Tutorial

If you’re new to MUDs or simply want to get to know the Starmourn vibes before joining the full game, consider playing our tutorial when making your character.

In the tutorial, you’ll learn key lessons about interacting with the world, play through a couple practice quests, meet key NPCs with loads of knowledge about the world, and you can even practice in ALL our current classes with a guided lesson + hunting zone.

If you want to dive right in, that’s fine too. You can simply skip the tutorial and dive in, spacer!

Key Commands: HELP , NEWBIE

Basic Commands

Moving Around

Rooms:
Starmourn is divided into many individual rooms, or specific points of interest in an area. A room might be a dancefloor in a nightclub, a particular stretch of an open field, the wrecked hallway of a derelict spaceship, or even a specific room in a house or a building.

Rooms are generally connected to each other more or less like you would think - to the east is more room on the dancefloor, the open field has a tree to the north, and so on.

You can view your current area, including available rooms, with MAP.

Directions:
To move around from one room or location to another, you simply use the direction that connects them. The movement options include all Cardinal Directions, In/Out, and Up/Down. Exits from your current room will be listed at the end of the output when you LOOK.

Sometimes doors, gates, hatches, and other obstacles may restrict your movement temporarily and you have to figure out how to get around them. Some open easily, others might need some extra investigation or hacking which is discussed further below.

Looking Around

Look / L Shows you the location you are in, including things on the ground and other adventurers or denizens.
GLANCE/GL Direction is something like E, N, WEST, etc. It will show you what's in that direction, if anything.
INV/I Shows you what you are carrying around in your inventory, or wearing.
INFO INV/II Same as I or INV, except it shows more detail, to cover cases where you may need to distinguish between, say, two different packs or other items in your possession.
INFO HERE/IH Shows detail about things in your current location. Exceedingly useful when you wish to attack, say, one particular rat in a room full of rats!
PROBE / P Probing an item or denizen is a great way to learn more about it. You’ll always get a full description of the thing, and some may have bonus information only available with a thorough probing.

Communicating

You can communicate in many different ways in Starmourn, both to individuals and groups. It includes speaking, Mindsim channels, and more.

SAY To speak to others nearby you.
TELL To contact someone via Mindsim network privately.
OOC / OOCTELL Note for a SAY or TELL that you are speaking out-of-character.
NEWBIE To use Mindsim communications to contact other newbies and veterans who may be able to help you. NEWBIE is not a chat channel, but it is great for asking questions and getting answers about how to get along in Starmourn in the beginning. Use NEWBIEON and NEWBIEOFF to start or stop listening on that channel.
FT / DT / CLT Mindsim communication channels for your Faction / Dynasty / current Clan respectively, as long as you’ve joined the org. Anyone in the org for the selected channel will be able to see and respond to messages there. Start listening with FTON / DTON / CLTON and stop with FTOFF / DTOFF / CLTOFF. All of these would be good places to seek out experienced adventurers and get advice.

Note: CLAN LIST OPEN will show you all clans available to immediately join, including CESSPOOL which is the main Starmourn OOC Clan for out-of-character discussion. CLAN LIST / DYNASTY LIST will show you all clans/dynasties, and you can learn more about each one, including how to contact to join their ranks.

If you leave your Faction, you’ll need to find someone who can induct you into a new one or choose the Factionless life.

Info About Yourself

SCORE This will show you all the major relevant information about your current character, including your race, class, gender, age, level, stats, hacking/captaincy levels, currencies, organizations, and rankings.
HONORS The honors output will show you basic info about yourself or other players including name, race, gender, Faction allegiance, Lawless status, Bounty Hunter Status, key rankings, Marital status, motto, and any featured honors lines to showcase participation in key events or milestones.
STATS SHOW This will show you a full output of ALL available stats, the points you’ve invested, and what other factors such as artefacts might be contributing to your stats.
LOOK / LOOK ME This will show you key descriptive elements about yourself or other players (if they’re in the same room) including general appearance, eye color, racial characteristics, physical build, free-form description of the character, any EFFECTS on the character, wielded and worn items, body mods (if applicable), and the current pose.

Items and Inventory

You will interact with so much stuff in the Starmourn sector: picking it up, getting it from a bag or the floor, wielding stuff, wearing other stuff, upgrading stuff.

Some items can be held in your inventory, and some of that only for a short time before it vanishes out of your inventory - either it decayed or it reset to where it was before. Some items may have benefits, obvious and not so obvious. Others will be just simply funny, pretty or otherwise interesting junk. You'll have so much stuff in Starmourn.

Fighting

As part of the tutorial, you will learn your class’ basic skills including building class resources (if applicable), basic attacks, basic healing, and the CRASH escape maneuver. If you skip the tutorial, you can still go to your BATTLEMASTER on Omni to learn your basic class skills.

When in doubt, you ALWAYS have access to: KICK / PUNCH <target>

PVE

Denizens are any inhabitants that aren't a player like yourself, typically called NPCs, mobiles (or mobs for short), or just simply monsters. Some have things to say or to sell. Some are immediately aggressive, while others are neutral. Some have quests to give out, which may help or harm other denizens in the area or pit you against one of the major Factions. It’s a good idea to get to know the denizens in an area when hunting, and consider which ones you hunt or attempt to befriend.

Healing and Recovery

This will be covered in more detail in the Healing/Wetwiring section, but Starmourn is entirely unique to the other IRE games in that healing does not require food, potions, or tattoos. Instead, Starmourn players manage Wetwiring resources, a high tech healing network of 5 subsystems that support the spacer’s lifeforce.

If your health drops to zero in combat or from circumstances in the world, in most cases you will clone back after a time to the most recently genestamped HETE cloning facility.

The exception to this is HARDCORE players - After MIL 20, Hardcore players will NOT be able to clone back, and dying will mean a permanent loss of the character. Please note that this setting is chosen in character creation and cannot be changed (added or removed) once your character is made.

Player Races

There are quite a few races available to choose from in Starmourn. Unlike other games, these races do not have any mechanical function for gameplay, so players are encouraged to choose their race based on roleplay.

Amaian
Humanoid, semi aquatic species originating in the ocean depths of the planet Delphi, and one of the member races of the Song Dominion.

Belaul
A hardy race of avian beings native to the tundras of Paperweight, and currently unallied to any specific Faction.

Bushraki
A humanoid race heavily augmented with cybernetics from birth and native to New Dikamazi within Reynold’s space.

Decheeran
Extremely long-lived race of genderless, tree-like bipeds native to Atria, and one of the member races of the Song Dominion.

Elgan
Small humanoid creatures with large floppy ears native to Krell, and one of the member races of Scatterhome.

Human
Descendants of the lost inhabitants of Earth, and one of the member races of Scatterhome.

Jin
A purple-skinned warrior race originating in the Ijzala sector, now inhabiting the Blood Ark world ship, and one of the member races of Scatterhome.

Krona
A squat race of people with two pairs of arms, no legs, and long tusks native to Gunurash II, and one of the member races of Scatterhome.

Nath-el
An insectoid race of beings native to Jerzah, and one of the member races of the Celestine Ascendancy.

Nusriza
An avian race with twin tails and scaled hides native to Frixion VI, and one of the member races of the Song Dominion.

Ry’nari
A reptilian race native to Hororeon, and one of the member races of the Song Dominion.

Shen
A humanoid race with tentacled faces native to Kovalar, and one of the member races of the Celestine Ascendancy.

Tukkav
A physically imposing, primate-like race native to Uycheon III, and one of the member races of the Celestine Ascendancy.

W’hoorn
A winged, feline race akin to sphynxes native to Benu Wen, and one of the member races of the Celestine Ascendancy.

We’re always open to making new races, such as the introduction of the Belaul and Bushraki in 2023, so this list is subject to change!

Player Factions

The Celestine Ascendancy - a massive corporate cityscape with sprawling megascapes run by corporate overloads and grungy underground districts ruled by the keiretsu rebellion’s members. It is governed by The Guardians, a trio of leaders elected by the people to manage matters of defense, culture, and economy in conjunction with the corporate CEOs of Litharge.

Scatterhome - a cluster of asteroids which serve as a rallying point for anarchists and other rule-breaking, lawless misfits operating in parallel to wealthy mining magnates, heads of interstellar corps, and those who thrive in an environment light on regulation. It has no official governing body, and is instead run by a collective of nominated individuals by the Call system.

The Song Dominion - a craggy, green, self-sustaining island hovering in the sky above the radiation-laden ground of the devastated Song planet. This Faction operates as a military meritocracy under the absolute leadership of the Lord Commander.

Classes and Combat Skills

There are currently five classes in Starmourn:

B.E.A.S.T. players will pilot a custom mech-suit and utilize a varied arsenal of weaponry as well as heated plasma tanks to melt their targets. This class is known for being tanky, swatting enemies out of the room and bringing down a hailstorm of damage in the heat of combat. Core Skills: MWP, Plasmacasting, Suittech

Engineer players thrive with an army of loyals by their side, constructing bots to carry out their commands in combat. Set up a network of turrets in the battlefield, scout the area with UAVs, and coordinate attacks with minitanks and drones. This is also the only class that can resurrect a fallen player or create wormholes between locations. Core Skills: Turrets, Bots, Gadgets

Fury players are knowledgeable of MUD combat and classes and looking for a challenge. By lashing out with their kithblade and firing off starkith as they move through Battleflow stances, Furies can render opponents completely helpless. Core Skills: Battleflow, Rage, Fulmination. Note: FURY IS CONSIDERED AN ADVANCED CLASS AND IS NOT SUGGESTED FOR MUD NEWBIES.

Nanoseer players channel the powers of the long-dead empyreals to boost themselves or manipulate the area around them. Wielding a stream of millions of nanites and the power of the Void, they are truly a force to be reckoned with, dropping vacc-spheres to drain a room or freezing opponents to the point of shattering. Core Skills: Nanotech, Voidism, Oblivion

Scoundrel players like combat flexibility with a variety of options to choose from. Damage can take the form of shooting off customized ammo to stack afflictions, throwing IEDs to similar effect, or diving in for a melee pummel. Also known for their use of BUGS for information gathering. Core Skills: GUNSLINGING, GUILE, IMPROVISATION

Once you’ve mastered a class, you’ll be able to take on another one, up to 4 total classes per character. The only limitation is that one player cannot fully embody the FURY and NANOSEER classes at the same time, as they require the player to channel opposing kith energies.

Weapons and Armor

Both weapons and armor can be obtained via mob drops while hunting, from NPC shops across the sector, or by exchanging Gear Tokens earned from Xenohunts with Fantom Laboratory representatives.

Some weapons will be WORN while others will be WIELDED. Make sure you double check the correct way to use your weapon before attempting combat! The only way to remove armor is to upgrade it with something new.

Once an item is worn or equipped, it will become Genelocked to you, meaning no one else in the Sector will be able to use it. To dispose of weapons or armor you no longer want, you can either trade them to other players or scrap them at a Junk shop.

Modifications (Mods)

Ships, Weapons, and Armor can be modded to improve damage output, resiliency, and more, but you can only obtain them by either crafting them yourself or purchasing them from another player. Send a message on the COMMERCE channel to request a builder, or consider setting up a WORKSHOP once you’re established in the Sector.

Skills and Abilities

Each class has three key skills for combat and utility abilities which are available to learn from your first day in the game. Players can spend LESSONS to learn class abilities from tutors or other players, unlocking more skills and combat routes as you progress.

You can review your class’ abilities by typing AB or ABILITY in game, then navigating the fields. For example, to see the skills available in the Scoundrel class’ Guile skill tree, you would type AB GUILE. To then see the BUGS ability in GUILE, you’d type AB GUILE BUGS.

In addition to class skills, you can spend LESSONS to learn basic skills like exploration and survival. You will also have access to Crafting Tradeskills once you reach MIL 10 currently including: Art, Cuisine, Fashion, Furnishing, Jewelry, and Mixology. Once you

Two unique skill trees include Captaincy (skills relating to piloting your space ship) and Hacking (skills related to hacking the Commsphere grids) which are unlocked simply by participating in the systems. You will gain Captaincy XP by defeating space incursions and mining for space materials. You will gain Hacking XP by hacking grids successfully and by defeating ICE within.

Marks, Credits, and Artefacts

There are several key currencies at play in the Starmourn Sector: Marks, Credits, and Event Currencies.

Marks - Similar to GOLD in other games, this is the basic currency of the sector. You earn this buy hunting and turning in JUNK, selling goods on the promo market, or through mining activities. You can then use marks to purchase items in shops, craft design items, and more. Consider it a one-size-fits-all currency and commodity.

Credits - Used for purchasing premium items in shops or artefacts. You can earn 20-50 credits each day through DAILY CREDIT tasks, or you can sometimes win them in special event prizes.

Event Currencies - Love Tokens, Frosted Iron Coins, and the like are all currencies granted as part of a specific event which can be used in special event shops for limited edition items.

Places to Go

Unlike many other games, the Starmourn Sector is made up of many individually mapped planets and accessible cities or landscapes therein. You will not always be able to simply walk from point A to point B, as the two points may be in separate star sectors!

However! That doesn’t mean navigation has to be hard.

Most planets can be walked to via the use of Station Transfers or Void Gates, depending on how far you need to go. Some planets will need to be flown to via Starship as they are too remote to have a Station Transfer established.

Most named NPCs and areas can be auto-navigated to with the WALK TO command, such as WALK TO OMNI to get to Omni Station or WALK TO POFFY to walk directly to the NPC Poffy Tango in Lamentations bar.

You will also have LANDMARKS, key points that you can save on each planet and click to walk to, as well as use of the AREAS command to list MIL-appropriate hunting grounds that you can auto-walk to.

Space Flight and Ships

Every player will have an Interceptor level ship available upon completion of the tutorial, or if you skipped the tutorial it will simply be available when you make it to your Faction Station. Use SHIP LIST in game to see your owned ships and their current locations, then head to a dock on the appropriate station to SHIP BOARD <SHIP NAME>.

The SHIP syntax will show you all available commands at your current learning level, and AB CAPTAINCY will show you the skills you’ve yet to unlock. Ships can be equipped with weapon modules to allow participation in Space PvP and PvE endeavors, or modules like gas scoops and asteroid tethers to allow access to mining economy activities.

Ships can also be expanded with unique rooms and described to fit your unique aesthetic and vision for the space. The number of rooms available to place on your ship will depend on the size of the ship, and you’ll unlock bigger ships as you progress in the Captaincy skill.

Experience, Levels, and Power

Your level is represented in Starmourn by your Mindsim Integration Level (MIL). You earn standard experience by hunting down mobs, xenobeasts, and such.

As referenced earlier, you will also earn Captaincy XP by participating in space activities like hunting incursions and mining, or Hacking XP by killing ICE and successfully hacking grids. While doing these activities, you will also earn a lower amount of standard XP.

Leveling up your MIL will increase your health and give you bonus points to invest in your stats, improving your damage. You’ll also earn LESSONS to develop your class skills, or for Captaincy and Hacking you’ll unlock skills automatically as you level up.

Once you reach MIL 75, you’ll begin earning points towards TALENTS, skills like increasing your critical hit chance, improving your chance to dodge attacks, increase the marks earned from turning in JUNK and more!

Quests

Much like any game, the Starmourn sector is filled with NPCs who need help! Quests refer to tasks that NPCs will request the player to complete in exchange for rewards like experience, marks, or items.

Quests can vary wildly from basic “Kill 5 MOBTYPE” to “Escort MOB to PLACE” to highly complex, multistage, custom objective questlines. Some quests can only be completed by one person at a time, while others will allow many people to be working on it at once. Most quests will have an expiration time, so you will need to complete it quickly or risk failing the quest. Many quests are repeatable, meaning you can help the NPC in the same way multiple times, but some can only be done once!

Once you take on a quest, use QUEST LIST to view all your active quests. Use QUEST <#> to view the quest details and see your current objective highlighted in yellow. The Nexus interface also shows quotes in a widget which you can configure.

Starmourn does not rely on NPCs overhearing keywords to get quest information - You can just talk to an NPC and receive a dialog prompt if you’re eligible for the quest they offer. Most quest givers will be named NPCs, but not all!

While we recognize how fun it is to quest and that you may want to show everyone all the cool stuff in Starmourn, it’s important that you do NOT ruin the fun for other players! Please do not share important quest completion notes with other players.

Death

Oh no! You took a lot of damage and your health hit zero - What happens now?

Cloning

The Hon-En-Tur Exaltation (HETE) is an NPC org that handles cloning for all individuals in the Sector equipped with an Internal Neural Replicator (INR). When your character dies, they will clone you back in the last cloning lab you visited - for a fee of course, and the fee will increase with each cloning.

Once you're back on your feet, it will behoove you to return to the site of your demise and retrieve the INR from your corpse (GET INR FROM CORPSE). You can then MINDSIM SCAN INR to recoup some of the experience you lost. Move quickly, though - Anyone who happens to come across your corpse can steal the INR (and your lost experience) from it.

Your mindsim can track the location of any active INRs, simply use MINDSIM TRACK INRS to get a list of any that have not yet been recovered and scanned.

Hardcore Players

If you selected HARDCORE MODE during character creation, you will be counted as one of those less fortunate spacers who do NOT have an INR. This means that after MIL 20, you will no longer clone back if your character dies. Take care and choose your battles carefully, spacer!

Containers and Props

Containers in Starmourn can take almost any shape (bags, boxes, capsules, warpholes) and will allow you to store a number of physical items within them.

If a container has a lid, you will need to OPEN it before you can look inside. For open containers, you can simply PROBE it to see a description and the contents therein. You can then GET <ITEM / ITEM#> FROM <CONTAINER / CONTAINER ID#> to retrieve things, or PUT <ITEM / ITEM ID#> INSIDE <CONTAINER / CONTAINER ID#> to store it away.

Props are items that spawn in rooms automatically which sometimes just add to the ambiance of the space, and sometimes serve a greater purpose: Cover. In combat, you can take cover to avoid certain abilities’ damage and to create openings for new attacks. Some props will be large enough to serve as cover by default. For others, like tables, you may need to FLIP the prop before you can take cover behind it.

Getting Help

Stuck on something and unsure what to do next? There are LOADS of ways to find help.

HELP FILES - The Starmourn HELP system is extremely robust, covering how to use key systems and addressing questions that have come up since our release in 2018. When in doubt, trying HELP <KEYWORD> like HELP PETS will likely at least point you in the right direction.

In addition to the standard HELP system, your Faction, Clan, or Dynasty may have bonus files written by the players of the org for you to use. You can access each one respectively with FHELP, CLHELP (for your currently selected clan), or DHELP.

You can also always use NEWBIE <Message> to ask questions of other players. This gives you the ability to add nuance to your question or explain context that may not be possible in a HELP search. It has the bonus benefit of the channel messages echoing to Discord, so players can help out even if they’re not online when you ask your question.

Speaking of Discord, we have a Starmourn Discord with many channels dedicated to conversations about game systems, hosting event reminders, and more!

The Starmourn Wiki is also available for general exploration of game systems and lore, and serves as a great resource for anyone looking to learn more about the sector.

Finding Other Players

Starmourn has a small, but dedicated playerbase, many of whom are always excited to get with other players for roleplay and adventure.

Remember you can ping your Factionmates in-character on the FT channel, or with your various org connections on Clan and Dynasty channels. You can also use RPWHO to see who is currently looking for roleplay or send a message in the CESSPOOL clan to reach people outside your orgs.

If you’re looking for something to do, check UPCOMING to see what events are on the horizon from Admin and other players.

Next Steps

What exactly is there to do in Starmourn? SO. MUCH! We actually wrote a whole article about it: https://www.starmourn.com/things-to-do

There’s a lot you can accomplish as a player in the game, and you have a unique opportunity to shape the world with your actions! Here are just some motivating goals you can keep in mind as you progress:

Political Power - Faction / Org leadership

Each Faction has a unique power structure that you can aim for, either taking a position to shape the culture of your org or build out your roleplay.

  • In the Celestine Ascendancy, you can rise to the rank of Guardian, serve as an office aide, or carry unique influence as a corpo CEO from one of the Litharge agencies.
  • In the Song Dominion, you can rise through the military ranks or even unseat the Lord Commander for absolute command.
  • In Scatterhome, all players have equal access to power and influence through a network of held positions, and each one competes with the others via the Call system to enact change.

Mining Magnate

Build your economic empire with the creation of offices to manage orders, hire wardens or pirates to influence markets, build space refineries and autofactories to produce finished goods for sale, and more! Space Economy is a massive part of the Starmourn sector with deep nuance and a flood of marks to the economy-minded spacer ready to take the reins.

Max Your Skills

You can earn all the lessons you’ll need to max your skills just by leveling up to MIL 75, meaning maxing out your class skills, general skills, a tradeskill, and your captaincy/hacking skills is well within reach without ever needing to spend money. In PvE and PvP, each class has unique kill paths and optimized strategies, as well as options for flair and fun along the way! Ever pulled off a pummel kill in an arena or a vacsphere in a room of enemies?

Modding to the MinMax

Once you’ve established a WORKSHOP, you’ll be able to hire a workshop manager and up to three assistants while you begin building your Modding empire.

Each assistant has four stats you can build up to improve their efficacy in key tasks like fetching parts, improving your relations with manufacturers, and researching effects. The Manager is your source for workshop quests, which let you travel the Sector on missions that advance your modding progress, and for mod shipment orders.

You can learn ARMOR MODDING, WEAPON MODDING, and/or SHIP MODDING to begin crafting mods for yourself and other players. Mods themselves can be custom branded by designing the appearance and applying designs to the mod chassis in creation.

Check out HELP WORKSHOPS in game for all the details!

Performance Leaderboards

NPCs aren’t the only ones performing in Starmourn - Players can form individual or team bands and perform concerts in venues across the sector. Concerts are often musical with lighting elements and such, but can take many forms.

We’ve seen spoken word poetry, drone shows, pet acrobatics, home video presentations, comedy specials and more! What will your act be, and how will you take the leaderboards as the BEST performer in the Sector?

Check out HELP PERFORMANCE in game to learn more.

Bounty Hunters & Lawlessness

Once you’ve mastered PvP, put your skills to use! Head over to Tranquility Deepness and register yourself as a Bounty Hunter so you can take on bounties and solve problems with violence.

Check out HELP BOUNTY in game to learn more.

If you’re really feeling yourself, go LAWLESS as well and put an open target on your back for anyone to test your mettle on-sight. It’s a dangerous life, but the pride of rising to the top LAWLESS rank might just be worth it.

Check out HELP LAWLESS in game to learn more.

Mercenaries

Sell your skills on the MERCENARY BOARDS for marks and prestige! These skills don’t have to be combat related - event planning, design work, and more can all be hired through the boards. Looking to hire help? Check their reviews to make sure you’re getting the best deal.

Check out HELP MERCENARIES in game to learn more.

Pirates and Wardens

Piracy in the Starmourn sector is a key influencer of the space economy. As a registered pirate, you can attack haulers, smuggle goods, and more! As a Warden, your role is to destroy pirates and secure law and order across the stars.

Check out HELP PIRACY in game to learn more!

Roleplay

Now more than ever, anyone in Starmourn can come up with an idea to influence the shape and direction of the sector. If you’ve got an event idea or want to change something in game, consider submitting a REQUEST for Admin assistance. Depending on the complexity of the request, your project will be assigned a cost of marks, credits, and/or commodities. Once the request is paid for and assigned out, the Admin team will work with you on next steps!

Check out HELP REQUESTS for more detail about the system and HELP PRICING to get an idea of what your project’s scope might cost your character.

Archaeology

All across the wildernesses of the Sector, spacers can uncover archaeological finds which have the capacity to reveal the prehistoric ecologies and material cultures of the Sector's diverse celestial bodies. (a.k.a. Find cool lore nuggets exclusive to the Archaeology specialty!)

From your Faction’s museum, hire out a team to begin a digsite in the Sector to get started. You’ll need to help them along the way, so be prepared to make deliveries, scare away scary monsters, and generally support your team until they’ve completed the dig recovery. Then deliver your recovered fragments of ancient life or artifacts to the museum and, once you’ve got all the parts you need to assemble a full piece, it’s time to research!

Researching takes place in the Museum’s backroom as free form RP for anyone in the room. Once you complete the research session, a log of your RP will be posted for other players to review and vote on. If you’ve researched the specific specimen enough, you may also uncover a DISCOVERY, revealing new information about the Sector and ancient life!

Check out HELP ARCHAEOLOGY and HELP MUSEUM in game to learn more!
