Worldbuilding Lore
The Starmourn Sector holds more than fifty spacefaring races and the wreckage of a war that nearly ended them all. The pages here collect the worldbuilding behind the game in one place.
The three factions
Every player character belongs to one of three powers, and the friction between them drives most of the Sector’s politics.
Scatterhome is a spinning asteroid field of anarchists, corps, and pirates, founded by Maddox Khan almost 900 years ago. It governs itself without a government, and it works better than it has any right to. The Song Dominion formed to fight the Ishvana in the Bushraki War, and when its capital Song was devastated, it rebuilt rather than abandon the ruin. Meanwhile the Celestine Ascendancy packs fifty billion people under a ringed sky, governed from the megacity of Litharge.
The races
Fourteen races are playable, from the genderless tree folk of the Decheerans to the Jin, who sense death coming. The races page covers each one. The Sector holds far more than fourteen, though. The NPC races page covers the deep lore of the Empyreals, the Y’saari, the Cleax invasions, and the Ishvana’s own creation.
The history
Humanity is in the Sector because Earth fell. Earth and the Free Fleet tells how a mercenary fleet carried the survivors out after the War of Extinction. Cosmpiercers covers the ancient stations scattered across the Sector, and why the factions never stop fighting over them.
Stories from the Sector
Legends and Stories collects the Sector’s epic tales. In particular, Martias and the Angel tells the long story behind how the Celestine Ascendancy became what it is today. For lore players have dug up themselves, the Archaeology Research Logs collect research sessions straight from the in-game museum boards.
Beyond the site
The player-maintained Starmourn wiki has pages down to individual races and characters.
