On the care and feeding of new players.

A new player posted a thread on the forums recently. Without knowing what's considered "IC" and "OOC", they got lambasted for a pretty minor comment. I'm not calling anyone out here or saying that anyone was in the wrong. Yes, faction channels are IC communication - but we also need to take care of new players, and be mindful of the fact that people new to our world will be unfamiliar with things and make occasional slip-ups, and that's ok.

Starmourn's reception has been great in that it is drawing attention from outside the normal pool of MUD aficionados. This means a bunch of people who've never played a MUD before, or even done any form of in-depth roleplaying, are giving the game a shot! That's awesome, as new players are the lifeblood of this game (and every game.)

If a new player makes an innocent hiccup, send them a tell, give them a friendly heads-up, take them under your wing! That player might grow to be your stalwart friend, your brother-in-arms, or perhaps the greatest leader your faction has ever seen. They just need help with those first baby steps.

Finding people willing to give a text game a shot in this day and age is rare, please do your part to make sure that their first impressions of our game and its awesome player-base are good ones.
