Unsteady.

Can someone tell me why it feels this way,
As if it were sunset on the very first day?
When unknown beauty the sky dared flaunt,
And none could turn from the dusk debutante?
While behind our backs the world faded away,
All things swallowed in shadows and in grey.

Innocent of hours and their turning wheel,
Far too new to name all the things we feel.
Held captive by wonder as much as by fear,
Wondering if sunlight would ever reappear.
The body paralyzed, the mind left to real:
Gripped, trembling, by night's dark appeal.

Can someone tell me why it feels this way,
As if it were sunset on the very first day?
