3.3 Skills and Lessons

Skills are sets of abilities that serve a variety of functions, from damaging players to healing your body to helping you get around Starmourn. Typing SKILLS will list what ones you have, and HELP <skillname> will give you some more information on that specific skill.

Each skill includes a number of specific abilities, each of which is accessed with a particular command. Typing AB <skillname> will show you a list of all the included abilities, and AB <skillname> <ability> will give you details on that ability. For example, AB SKIRMISHING COVER.

When you type SKILLS you will notice three categories listed: class skills, general skills, and trade skills. Class skills are determined by your selected class (see HELP CLASS SKILLS). General skills are common to every player (see HELP GENERAL SKILLS). With trade skills you may select one from several utility-focused choices (see HELP TRADE SKILLS).

Also when you look at SKILLS, you will see a horizontal gauge beside each skill. This indicates how many abilities you have learned in that skill. You can learn more abilities by spending lessons in a skill.

LESSONS
-------
Lessons are the currency of learning in Starmourn. In order to learn more abilities, you must spend lessons learning them.

The number of lessons you have available is displayed at the bottom of SKILLS, as well as in your SCORE. Gaining lessons can be done in these ways:

1) Reaching a new experience level.

Every time you gain a level, you will gain 5 lessons.
Conversely, if you lose that level, you will lose 5 lessons.
Simply gain the level back to get the lessons back.

2) Obtaining Bound Credits and then converting them to lessons.
See HELP CREDITS for information on obtaining Bound Credits. Once you
have any Bound Credits, you can type CREDITS CONVERT # TO LESSONS and
you will receive 6 lessons for each Bound Credit.

3) Bonus lessons. You will be gifted with 2.5 bonus lessons for every Credit
you choose to convert to a Bound Credit, for the first 1000 Credits you
thus convert, totalling a possible 2500 bonus lessons. See HELP CREDITS.
Clarification: you receive these bonus lessons at the time you convert
Credits to Bound Credits, NOT at the time you convert Bound Credits into
   lessons!

4) The No-Brainer Lesson Packages. These get you 1000 lessons for $10,
and are bought from the website - http://www.starmourn.com/credits

Note that this lesson package may only be purchased for any particular
   character twice.

LEARNING
--------
To use lessons, find a NPC trainer (such as a Battlemaster) or another player, and LEARN <#> <skill> FROM <trainer/player>. You can learn as many lessons as you like at once. How many lessons to use in each skill is up to you. You can easily see how many lessons it will take to learn an ability by typing AB <skillname> and referring to the numbers on the right. If you see a double hyphen -- then you already know the ability. If you see a number, that is how many lessons you need to use to learn that ability.

You are considered an apprentice member of your class until you have invested over 850 lessons in any of your three class skills. At which point you will be considered a full member. When you start a learning session where you will cross this threshold, you will be warned and ask to confirm that you would like to do this. Once a full member, you will have access to the wide gamut of abilities available in your class skills, but should you decide to change class, you will only receive 50% of your invested lessons back.
