13.1.3 Guards

Guards are high level NPCs that are put in place to protect your faction territory against enemies.

If you have the privilege within your faction, you can use the FACTION GUARD command to hire, position, upgrade, and retire guards.

Hiring a guard has a one-time 25,000 Marks fee associated, paid by the faction. Additionally, each in-game year, there is a maintenance fee, paid in commodities. These commodities MUST be stored at the faction's home station (Danica, Reynolds, or Crossings).

These are the costs of the various guard types:
B.E.A.S.T: 1 Transteel + 1 Sensor Package + 1 Processing Array
Scoundrel: 1 R-glass + 1 Paristeel + 1 Processing Array
Nanoseer: 1 UMM + 1 Nanoplastic + 1 Transteel
Engineer: 1 Transteel + 1 QPC + 1 Disheet
Fury: 1 Disheet + 1 R-glass + 1 Nanoplastic

Additionally, for each Cosmpiercer the faction controls, 5 of these commodity maintenance fees will be covered.

Each guard type has a different attack:

B.E.A.S.T.: damage; greatly increased damage if the target is prone or entangled
Scoundrel: damage + entangles
Nanoseer: damages and afflicts confusion; higher damage on confused targets. Summons enemies lack if they flee
Engineer: damage + prone; higher damage and afflicts vertigo on prone targets
Fury: drags flying targets to the ground, otherwise strikes a random target

Guards can receive one upgrade to improve their functionality. The upgrade is non-reversible (except by retiring the guard and hiring another), costs 25,000 Marks (one-time), and has an extra maintenance cost every in-game year.

These upgrades are available:

  - +50% maximum health
