8.5 Trade Skills

Trade skills are production skills that involve making various goods for personal use or to sell to other players.

You can start learning tradeskills from Level 10.

Basic modding skills are free, but the design proponent of weaponmodding and armormodding class as design skills and therefore are subject to a flat 200cr fee for each.

Separately from modding, each player gets one paid design tradeskill for free, and subsequent skills cost 200*(tradeskills known). So your first additional skill is 200cr, the second is 400cr, the third is 600cr and so on.

To choose one:

The current tradeskills are:

Pure Design Skills:
Cuisine, Fashion, Jewelry, Mixology, Furnishings, Art
Different patterns are unlocked as you invest more lessons. Through these, you can create custom dining experiences and outfits, for yourself or to sell through the trade terminal market.

Modding Skills:
ArmorModding, ShipModding, WeaponModding
Armor and Weapon modding have physical items that you can drop as loot bashing, or if you have a workshop established you can find them through a quest task assigned to you by your workshop manager. Therefore if you wish to use more than the standard-looking mod in your creations you will need to WORKSHOP LICENSE <WEAPONS|ARMOR> to gain a design license for either of these.
Shipmodding is different, having no physical items to work with and requiring salvaged tech to reverse engineer, so you cannot get a license to design items for this.

All designs go through an approval process, and must comply with HELP WRITING STANDARDS.

You can increase your knowledge of tradeskills (except modding) by using lessons. See the relevant help file for more on how each works.
