3.16 Hardcore

Hardcore Mode is an opt-in way for players to turn off the ability to be reborn after death. In Starmourn, most players are equipped with an INR (an internal neural replicator) that allows them to keep regenerating into a cloned body when they die. However, a significant percentage of the galactic population are not equipped with INRs, either by choice or lack of privilege/wealth. Hardcore mode allows players to explore what this looks like, adding another layer of meaning and immersion to life in Starmourn.

Players have an option to start the "hardcore" experience during character generation. Players are only able to have one Hardcore character at a time. Your character will permanently die if they are killed after level 20. It is NOT possible to turn a non-hardcore character into a hardcore character, nor is it possible to turn your hardcore character into a non-hardcore one.

When a hardcore character above level 20 dies, they die permanently after a short sequence where they can say their final farewells. They will then be disconnected and cannot login to that character ever again.

Hardcore credit pool
====================
When your hardcore character dies, the character's credit worth remains accessible in your Hardcore Credit Pool. This applies to all unspent bound and unbound credits and the full value of artifacts, lessons obtained through converted credits, tradeskill licenses, multiclass fees, and owned collectible cards. Half of all credits obtained "for free" from promos, dailycredits, etc, are also added to your Hardcore Credit Pool! Half of credits gained from levelling are also included, but only if the character is above MIL 20 (this requirement is necessary to avoid exploitation).

To view the credits available in your Hardcore Credit Pool, check HARDCORE CREDITPOOL. To claim credits from the pool to your character, use HARDCORE CREDITPOOL CLAIM <x>. Credits obtained this way are always claimed as bound credits, even if credits on your dead character were unbound.

Hardcore characters can retire normally, as well, which past real purchased credit retirement value from previous characters factored in. If they do, credits accumulated in a hardcore retirement pool to-date are locked out of any future hardcore characters on the same registration. This means that retiring a Hardcore character normally will reset your Hardcore Credit Pool back to 0.

Hardcore No-Brainer packages
============================
Lessons and credits from the No-Brainer packages are not factored in to your Hardcore Credit Pool. They can, however, be claimed via HARDCORE NOBRAINER CLAIM <CREDITS/LESSONS>. This means that if you purchase 2 lesson packs and 1 credit pack on a character that dies, you'll still be able to access those lessons and credits on your next hardcore character.

As an added bonus for Hardcore, you're able to both claim No-Brainer's from past characters AND purchase more for your current character. This means you can get up to 4000 lessons and 600 credits on a single character from the No-Brainer packages, but only 2000 lessons and 300 will persist to your next character.

Hardcore rankings
=================
When you make a fresh hardcore character, hardcore rankings (RANKINGS HARDCOREXP, etc) only factor in the your current character. However, you can HARDCORE RANKINGS CUMULATIVE [ON/OFF] to make hardcore rankings factor in all of your hardcore characters, dead and alive! If you want to hide who your previous characters were, it's recommended you keep the cumulative rankings off.

Hardcore pvp rules
==================
Non-hardcore characters cannot attack hardcore players and vice versa unless the hardcore player is Lawless, on a Cosmpiercer, in a Cache, for 10 minutes after hacking a CAC or faction Surveillance, or within the territory of a faction they are enemied. Only Bounty Hunters who are also Hardcore can claim a bounty contract against another Hardcore player, unless the bountied hardcore player is also Lawless.

HWHO - will show you all the hardcore characters currently logged on.

All the normal restrictions apply to hardcore characters killing other hardcore characters.
